Part 2: What I’ve Learned Quitting My Dream Job
Let’s talk about creating space. This was something I was really uncomfortable with for years. It’s also a concept that society as a whole doesn’t support.
Think about the common saying, “Don’t quit your day job.” This advice, which I received numerous times, kept me scared to pursue my dream of fully diving into my own business for so long. It left me feeling trapped, stuck, and unable to take control of my own destiny. I spent years waiting for the perfect moment — a sign that would guarantee the transition would be smooth, easy, and seamless. When this perfect moment didn’t show up, I would tell myself it wasn’t meant to be.
At the same time, I struggled to understand how I could show up as the best version of myself in my job as a Marketing Director while also pouring my energy into starting my own business. This “advice” wasn’t resonating.
So, here’s the lesson:
In order to call in the new, you must release the old.
Energetically, we cannot operate on two different frequencies. It’s hard to have one foot in and one foot out. Here’s another analogy: imagine you are carrying as many apples as you can from point A to point B. You are trying to balance these apples in your arms to get from point A, the beginning of your day, to point B, the end of your day. Someone walks by offering you an orange, but you have so many apples that you can’t even see the person, nor do you have the space to receive what they have to offer.
Okay, it’s a silly analogy, but I believe many of us are operating from this place! The root of it comes from a scarcity mindset. If I let go of this job, this relationship, or this item, what if something new doesn’t come along? So, we settle. We remain stuck in fear, thinking our biggest dreams are too good to be true.
If we really want to live differently, to show up in a new way, we need to show the universe that we want it. We must create space by clearing out what doesn't feel aligned, opening ourselves up to something new. Sometimes, that means leaping without knowing what’s on the other side.
We must release to receive, letting go of the old to call in the new. I believe the universe rewards a leap of faith. This leap can be scary, but what awaits on the other side could be far more amazing than you ever imagined. Change starts with you.
